About the Game

The city of Esirien is attacked by mighty Dragons, but the local leader fights back with the help of the city militia and the local wizard. As the game progresses, Dragons tear down key city buildings while the humans fight back, trying to whittle down the fiery beasts' fighting abilities.

Dragon Rage is a game of mythical creatures attacking a walled medieval city. On the game-board is a full colour aerial view of the city of Esirien and surrounding territory, and the counters include knights, infantry, heroes, wizards, dragons, orcs, trolls, great birds, giants, and other mythical creatures and beasts. The other side of the board introduces the orcish oppidum of Nurkott, where orcs defend against humans and invading creatures.

Dragon Rage is an introductory, hex-and-counter, asymmetrical wargame for two players in a fantasy setting where one player plays the attacking Dragons and the other plays the city defending troops. The game has few counters on each side and is easy to learn. The numerous optional rules and play modes offer many challenges to the players.

The game includes an introductory game manual of 16 pages that covers all basic rules needed to play the first scenario of two dragons attacking Esirien, and an extended 32 pages rules reference manual that covers all basic and optional rules in detail.

Dragon Rage was first published in 1982 by Dwarfstar, an imprint of Heritage Models. Dwarfstar had financial problems, and went bankrupt shortly after the release of Dragon rage (for reasons unrelated to the game). The result was that Dragon Rage disappeared from the market, and was never republished, to the author and the game fan's dismay.

Now, almost 30 years after the original edition, Flatlined games is proud and happy to bring this classic back on the market in a completely revised and improved edition.

Where the 1982 dwarfstar edition was a microgame format with an unmounted board and small counters, the new edition has a larger format, with a mounted board and thick, rounded corners counters with new art on one side, and the original art on the other side.

The new edition also introduces a brand new map, Nurkott, an orcish oppidum attacked by humans and mythical creatures.

Other highlights of this new edition are rules for princess Elowyn, tournament rules, and a campaign system that links several battles over time.

Mapped with Campaign Cartographer 3

The board maps for Esirien and Nurkott have been designed using Profantasy software (http://www.profantasy.com) Campaign Cartographer 3 and City Designer 3. Their software produces professional results that are both pleasing to the eye and consistent in style and detail level and the new edition of Dragon Rage would not have been possible without it.
